How many calories are burnt walking in the snow?

Please can you tell me how many cals are burnt walking in snow and on ice? Also, snowball fighting? Thanks

Our expert says...

There is a likelihood that you could burn more calories due to the instability factor, but equally you may walk slower due to the icy risk, so it may balance out.

Either way, the calorie burning benefits of walking on ice would be insignificant to add to your exercise diary - sorry! Walking in thick snow could 'up' the calorie burn figure - but only marginally.....we are talking on 15-20 calories per hour!! With snowballing, I'd just recommend that you use it as a fun way to burn some bonus calories!!
