Alcohol free lager calories

Hi, I know from reading bits on the internet about how alcohol can have a negative effect on weight loss but there isn't much about 0% alcohol free lager. I've been trying some alcohol free lagers (which some of the newer ones are not too bad) and wanted to know what effect they have and if they can cause problems with weight loss.

Typically the lager I've found has about 78 calories per 330ml which is lower than normal lager but do these calories act the same as those from a normal alcoholic lager or is it simply that the calories from alcohol are the ones that cause problems? Thanks.

Hi and thanks for your query.

Essentially it’s only the calories in lager that determine whether it’s “fattening” or not, and the alcohol content, whilst very important from a health point of view (women should have no more than 2-3 units a day and men no more than 3-4 units) has no independent effect on your weight. So when you’re choosing, do try to keep your alcohol down but for your weight loss you only need to consider the calories.

I hope this helps!
