What else should I do for my exercise?

Hi, I?ve just joined, and have only just started to exercise I am trying to walk 10000 steps a day. What else should I start to do? Please help I am desperate to lose weight, I do ballroom dancing on Tuesday for a hr and half, but I hate the gym.

Hi,

It is excellent that you have set yourself a daily walking target and it doesn’t have to be an issue that you don’t like the gym. You have two choices with reference to the gym:  you could either address why you don’t like the gym, i.e. lack of motivation or boredom – which can be easily resolved with fitness expert guidance from employed instructors who can prescribe interesting and empowering workouts for you; or if it relates to feeling self-conscious (which is extremely common in a gym environment) then simply seek activities that avoid that situation as the gym is a useful bit not essential tool for weight loss.

 

The ballroom dancing is a great way to burn calories without even realising it, if you enjoy it consider capitalising on it by doing additional classes (If possible) or practicing at home. You could use home exercise DVD’s as the variety of DVD’s available mean that if you like ballroom dancing, for example, you could consider the recently released ‘strictly come dancing’ DVD as well as others that provide a workout containing the components of various dance styles.

Think about any additional activities you could possibly add to your lifestyle, perhaps swimming, cycling and so on. As long as you stick to your nutritional aims and exercise aims you will get your desired results.
