I'm in the midst of a cold and productive cough, which effects my appetite. I know i should eat something but am frightened that certain foods will aggravate and worsen my cough. What do you advise that I should eat during my illness?
Thanks for your question and sorry to hear you're a bit under the weather.
If you don't have much of an appetite it's best to just try and eat the foods that you might fancy - sometimes the best things to eat are warming soups, casseroles which are easy to eat or simple meals such as grilled fish with salad and rice. Strong flavours can sometimes be off putting when you're not feeling 100%.
Don't worry too much if you're not reaching your calorie allowance for a few days - once you're feeling better then you can get back on track. There's no point forcing yourself to eat if you don't feel like it.
The most important thing to do is to make sure you're having plenty of fluids - when you're battling a cold, drinking even more fluids than usual is important. Water is the best option but any fluids including tea and coffee are also good.
Hope you feel better soon
