My BMI is 23.3 and I would like to lose about a stone and a half. I'm
exercising every day and really pushing myself burning between 300-600
calories in the gym every day. My question is should I be trying to
eat all of the 1400 calories I'm allowed a day?
The only reason I ask is
because on the week view diary it shows how many calories under the 1400
I've eaten and gives me a big green tick. I've only been at this for 10
days or so but I'm really trying hard, however because I'm doing loads
of cardio I'm getting quite hungry and seem to be needing all of those
1400 calories!! (I haven't gone over, but I'm finding that in the last
few days I've only been under by a small amount.) Is this okay or should
I be trying to eat less?
I want to get the food thing right, but my
main goal is to improve my fitness and the exercise is very important to
me ? I used to be a runner and I want that level of fitness back! I just
don't want to be shortchanging myself by eating too much when I'm
working hard in the gym. Thanks
Hi,
It sounds like you have approached your weight loss regime very sensibly, including lots of exercise each day, and if you continue in this way I think you are going to be very pleased with the results!
With this amount of exercise, I don’t think you should be trying to eat less calories. You need the food to give you energy to be able to exercise and to keep you feeling full, otherwise it will become increasingly hard to stick to your weight-loss plan. So, I would aim to eat the 1400 calories each day and fill up on complex carbohydrates, which will give you a steady supply of slow release energy to enable you to exercise efficiently. By this I mean brown, whole-grain carbohydrates like brown rice, wholemeal bread and vegetables too. Also, make sure you eat plenty of lean protein (chicken, fish, pulses) each day too.
Keep up the good work and I’m sure you will soon get your fitness back. If you want any specific help on your exercise regime, send a question to Kelly, our fitness expert. Good luck!
