Hi, I used to be a member of a ladies gym, I left 4 years ago when my working hours changed and have now put on loads of weight. I've bought a treadmill and stepper for use at home. From memory my heart rate needed to be 113 to be in fat burning zone and 139 to achieve a CV workout. I'm now 51 and weigh 13 stone 7lb. I will build up gradually but what should I aim for please to burn fat and get a CV workout.
The best thing you can do is vary your workout intensities to include both heart rate targets, i.e. on one day focus on a longer duration (i.e. 40-60mins), lower intensity fat burning level workout and another day ain to do a lesser duration (20-40mins), higher intensity cardiovascular fitness workout. The variety is powerful and due to the differing intensities and duration, the calorie out puts isn’t massively dissimilar. This will be particularly useful if you are training on consecutive days, in which case, make sure you keep alternating your type of workout so you don’t do the same format on consecutive days. This has huge benefits for fitness, muscle recovery and motivation.
Hope this helps,
