Q.

I'm not losing ANY weight - help!

I have been on the calories counting for a few weeks now. I am doing really well with my calories, weighing and being honest. I exercise regularly too but haven't lost a solitary pound yet...I am getting so frustrated. I do look better though. Toning up. What could I do to speed up my loss?

Our expert says...

Oh, I do feel for you, that is very frustrating indeed as it seems you are doing everything as you should. It won't be much comfort, but weight loss rarely progresses in a linear fashion and sometimes it doesn?t happen as fast as it should do on paper. Please don?t give up, if you carry on as you are it should be impossible not to start losing weight eventually! In the meantime tweaking the balance of your diet might encourage weight loss to start. Try having higher levels of protein (meat, fish, eggs) and slightly less carbohydrate. The carbohydrate you do eat should be wholegrain and slow releasing - for example porridge, grainy bread, whole-wheat pasta and brown rice. You should avoid too many sugary food or white flour products that give a fast burst of sugar into the system and cause excessive insulin release.

On the positive side your body is toning up, and this, in fact, may just be the issue here. Possibly you have been putting on muscle which is more compact than fat (so you look and feel smaller) but means the scales don?t budge for a while. This doesn't mean you won't ever lose weight - you still will - but for now the bigger change may be in your body measurements. So keep a tape measure handy as well as the scales to keep a more accurate record of what actually is happening to your body. Good luck!
