How should I train post-hysterectomy?

Hi, I am 6 weeks post abdominal hysterectomy, without any complications, and would like to know what kind of exercises I can do other than walking. I am aware I still need to take care regarding exercise however it would be nice to have a change from walking. Currently I am able to walk about 45 minutes on the flat on uneven terrain and continue to try increase this time as able.

With every week that passes your exercise options will increase vastly, the important thing is to listen to your body and with every new thing you undertake just start gently and build up slowly. If you are a reasonable swimmer then you could start off with swimming and just build up lengths gently. Also, other forms of land-based, non-impact aerobic exercise (such as cycling, rowing or x-training) would also be suitable to try.

In addition, you could start using strength training machines for the upper body, as seated exercises will pose minimal stress to the healing tissue post-surgery. Once you feel these activities are comfortable and you have built up your exercise time then you could consider progressing to low-impact exercise DVD’s and eventually core-related exercises to help retrain abdominal muscles that will have weakened post your surgery and during your recovery period.
