Hi I am a nurse and work night shifts. I have 4 nights coming up. On my first night I don't sleep during the day, and then I am awake all night. What do I do about my calories because I need to eat during the night as well as during the day? Thank you
Hi,
I know that shift working can seem to make this more difficult, but it is really a matter of recording your calories over a consistent 24 hour period and then looking at the weekly overview.
So, for your first night shift you will be awake for 24 hours (if I have understood you correctly), which will undoubtedly mean you will eat more than you would on a normal day. However, after you last night shift, I am guessing that you will sleep in the morning and still go to bed that evening, which will mean you have a shorter day and will probably eat less.
This last day will go some way towards balancing out your weekly total, which I think is the main thing that you should focus on. If you keep an eye on your weekly figures, you should be fine. I wish you well.
