Q.

How can I plan my meals around work?

I am really finding it hard to eat right. I have to leave for work at 11:30am and get home roughly 12hours later. At work I only have one or two minute breaks. So If I eat a big meal that I have prepared I have stomach upset for the rest of the day. My weight is affected hugely as I am physically so tired after work and end up eating very late at night. Can you suggest a way around this problem? It is so hard to make/eat breakfast then make lunch, dinner and choose snacks to last me the whole day.

Hi

Thanks for your query. I really sympathise, as it is very difficult having to plan healthy meals that don’t upset your system when you work the sort of unsocial hours you do.

If I were you, I’d try to shift the pattern so that you eat earlier in the form of a hearty, nutritious brunch (eggs, toast, fruit, porridge and yogurt spring to mind) before you leave for work. Then you’ll need to eat again late afternoon whilst at work, which I’d suggest could be a Tupperware feast with the likes of salad, hummus, nuts, lean meats etc (something you can graze on if you don’t get a proper break). Then when you get home from work, a small snack, should be all that’s necessary – a milky drink and slice of toast for example.

This should start to retrain your system not to be so very hungry late at night, which I think is the real issue here.

I hope this is "food for thought" for you and may help to make it easier with counting the calories and keeping them under control!

Best wishes

Angela
