Q.

Are there any guidelines for carb/protein intake?

Hello, I wonder if you are able to provide some guidance...

I've been using NC for about two months and have been under my cals and exercise targets almost every day. My weight loss is steady and generally consistent and I exercise often and sometimes vigorously. My fruit and veg intake (excluding potatoes which I dislike) is usually between 300% and 400% and sometimes over 500% daily. I feel fit and energetic; though occasionally have a little difficulty relaxing/sleeping. My question concerns carbohydrate/protein. The food diary reveals that my carbs/protein intake is rather low. Are there guidelines in relation to recommended quantites (daily or weekly) for carb/protein intake? e.g. should I be eating 1 or 2 portions per day?
Thanks for your time, in advance.

A.

Our expert says...

Hi.

Well, it sounds like you are doing really well with Nutracheck and achieving a desirable steady weight loss. Regular exercise and good nutrition are paying off, as you have found out!

It is useful to keep an eye on your diet to make sure you are regularly eating carbohydrates, protein and fats (the good ones, of course!), as our bodies need all these food groups to perform different functions in the body. Eating a balanced diet will also ensure that you receive all the vitamins, minerals and fibre that your body needs to work efficiently and keep you healthy.

It is recommended that around 30-35% of our calories should come from fat, around 15% from protein and 50-55% from carbohydrate. For 1400 calories a day, as an example, this means that you should be eating around 735 calories (52.5%) from carbohydrate, which is about 183g, and 210 calories (15%) from protein, about 42g. How you spread this throughout the day and between meals is really up to you. I hope this helps!
