Will taking a protein supplement speed up weight loss?

I am currently using a Protein Supplement to try and up my intake. The supplement is a whey based protein, and contains about 100 calories per serving (plus 300ml of semi-skimmed milk), and I take it 3 days a week immediately after my weights workout session.

I have heard mixed opinions on whether this would slow or speed up fat loss, can you clarify this issue? I am continuing to keep within my calorie and fat limit whilst taking the protein. Thanks.
