Q.

Will I still loose weight if I don't eat enough?

Most days I don't feel like I need to eat as much as my daily calorie allowance. I read the last post asking do you have to eat all the calories, you said to eat at least 1200 for your metabolism. I sometimes don't get to that amount. Today I have only had just over 800......will I still lose weight if I don't always eat at least 1200?? I have lost 6lb in 2 weeks, but I really feel bloated this week and I'm dreading weighing in on Friday because I feel heavier. Is there a reason why I feel like this because I haven't over eaten, if anything I have under eaten??

Our expert says...

Yes, you will definitely still lose weight even if you go below 1200 cals. We’re just saying you may not lose any more weight if you go below  1200 calories, and if you do, for most people it ‘s usually so little extra that it just isn’t sensible or comfortable for the very little extra loss you might achieve, My concern is that you will find it hard to get all the nutrients you need at this level, and I suggest you take a multivitamin and mineral  as extra reassurance. If you have a definite loss of appetite it is something you should talk to your GP about. As for why you are feeling bloated, it could easily be time of the month or some other  reason that has lead to either an accumulation of water or air.  Please don’t worry if you have not lost weight or seem to have gained some - this will not be fat and any trend should still be downwards!
