Q.

What foods should I be eating for my psoriasis?

I�m not sure if you'll be able to help me with this as it isn�t related to weight loss as such. ?I am trying to build up a healthy diet and would like some advice as I suffer from a skin condition called Psoriasis and have done for 21 years.?Do you know if there is anything that I should or shouldn�t be eating with this condition? My skin is quite bad at the moment and I�m not sure if its related to my change in diet.?Any advice would be great.??

The bottom line is that most scientific studies do not show a definitive link between diet and psoriasis, but this isn’t to say one doesn’t exist or that particular individuals don’t react to specific foods. Anecdotally, some psoriasis patients believe that a wheat intolerance triggers their psoriasis. Others have found success by eliminating red meat and fatty foods from their diet. But do bear in mind that good fats – especially the anti-inflammatory omega-3 oils in oily fish like salmon and mackerel - could actually be beneficial to psoriasis sufferers, so though it’s good to cut down on fat overall, you could actually increase these in your diet.

If you haven’t done it before, my best advice would be to keep a symptoms diary along side your online food diary and to monitor any flare-ups in your condition that could potentially be linked to what you eat. This may help to pinpoint any foods you are having a problem with.  Other than that, eating as healthily as possible – with lots of fruit and veg, is the best advice.
