I've dieted all my life - how can I stop thinking about food

I really need some ideas as to where to start. I seem to have been dieting all my life so I really want to be able to stop thinking about it, if you know what I mean. As soon as anyone says the word diet to me I am automatically hungry!

You've hit upon one of the major barriers to successful weight loss - the psychological effect that going on a "diet" can have. And it's a tough one to crack because as you say, any time you think "diet" it's also likely that you're going to think "deprivation and drudgery" which makes you crave all the naughty foods you think you can't have! The answer lies in changing that mind set and thinking in terms of healthy eating (which can actually be enjoyable) rather than "dieting" as such. Once you can see it as a true lifestyle change that you WANT to make rather than something you HAVE to do you'll start getting there. To help you, try reading the motivational but practical "Thin Secrets: How to Be Slim Without Dieting", by Dr Lizzie Kingsley. Or take some tips from the French who eat everything in moderation and still mange to stay slim.
