How often is it ok to eat chocolate or cake within a healthy diet? I am trying to cut down, but aside from calorific considerations I have no idea how much is too much.
It's a good question because so often we're told to eat sugary and fatty foods in moderation or in 'small amounts' which is not really very specific is it?! Official government advice does not extend as far as recommending on this, but you can sort of understand this because it might seem a bit nanny state-ish to be making comments about how many chocolate biscuits we are allowed a day!
However I think it's important to have an idea and my guideline if I was advising you would be to stick to a daily treat of no more than about 150-175 calories whilst you are slimming which is is around 30g of chocolate or a a couple of chocolate biscuits.
Chocolate cakes vary a lot - those virtually fat free chocolate cup cakes are the best bet for making your calories stretch - so I can't really say, but if you check the calories with the 150 cals in mind you should be okay.
