Q.

How does the pill impact on weight loss?

Hi, I've been on the pill for two and a half months as a treatment for suspected endometriosis. I quickly put on half a stone (!) because of it, so when I stop the pill will I lose that weight again or will I stay the same as I am now? I've decided not to take the pill after this pack because there are too many side effects and it hasn't helped the pain whatsoever! I'm back to my pre-pill weight through this website now (and it feels GREAT!), but I was just wondering how that would change? I was also wondering if taking the pill affects weight loss (if it slows it down, makes it easier...)?
Thanks, I hope you can help! Rosie.

Our expert says...

Hi Rosie,

Most people who gain weight when they go on the pill do find that they lose most of this weight once they stop taking it, although it can take a little time. Sometimes the length of time the pill has been taken can be a factor and the longer it has been used the harder, or slower, the weight loss can be. Anyway, this doesn't apply to you, as you have only taken the pill for a couple of months. So, having lost the weight you gained by taking it, you may be pleasantly surprised once you have finished this pack - although don't expect any miracles!

I don't think there is a straightforward answer to your second question about how the pill affects weight loss. As we are all unique, prescription medication (including the pill) tends to affect everyone differently, as you have found out with the side effects you experienced. So the effect of the pill on weight loss is likely to be different for everyone too.

Anyway, I'm glad you have got back to your pre-pill weight by using the Food Diary and that you are feeling so great! I wish you well and hopefully the next few weeks will see you building on this weight loss success.
