Q.

How can I start liking more foods?

From when I fell pregnant 4yrs ago my food palate for things I used to like never returned. I cant eat spud, veg, the only meat I like is chicken. I love toast and my biggest down fall is crisps. I am at a loss as to what to eat. Thanks

A.

Palates can change but they also need teasing and tantalising to get over preconceptions you might have about food. If you think you don?t like potatoes and steak for example, do you think there is any any you could cook them differently to make then seem more appealing to you? Try different herbs and seasoning,or experiment with different cooking methods - steaming or stir frying for example. Get yourself a good simple cookery book and try to introduce one new meal a week. And when you?re food shopping, pop one new thing in your trolley every week and vow to try it. WIth a bit more experimentation I reckon you should get there. If you want to private message me with more detail about what you don?t like and why, I can try to help a bit more. My main worry is that you say you don't eat veg, and we need to try to see if we can do anything about that. One last tip: you could try taking a zinc supplement which anecdotal evidence suggests may help make your taste buds more sensitive and perhaps help change your appreciation of different flavours.
