How can I reduce my cholesterol?

How can I reduce my cholesterol when I am already eating fibre, fish and very healthily, also doing lots of exercise? My reading has gone up from 5.2 to 6.1 and as I have suffered TIA's I really want to work on getting this down. How long does it take to show a difference? Thank You

 Hello there, it sounds like you have already taken plenty of the right steps to lower your cholesterol. If your cholesterol reading has gone up during this time, do you have a breakdown of  how it is made up? With all that healthy eating and exercise I'm thinking it's possible that the increase has been in HDL cholesterol which is protective, so you may have less to worry about than you think. Also cholesterol is only one risk factor in heart disease - if your blood pressure, triglycerides etc are healthy you overall risk will reduced. I would ask for a breakdown of LDL ('bad') versus HDL('good') cholesterol next time you have it measured. In the meantime you could swap to a cholesterol-lowering low fat spread for your bread, such as Benecol or Flora proactive. If your LDL cholesterol is still up in a month or two, talk through the options with your GP and take their advice. Hope this helps!
