Your start weight, current weight and how much weight have you lost and how long did it take?

I started with Nutracheck weighing 17st 2lbs240lbs108.9kg and have so far lost 4st 1lb57lbs25.9kg, but I really started concentrating on my health journey last September and aim to get to 12st 7lb175lbs79.4kg so I have wriggle room of a few pounds once I have stopped losing weight.

I am determined to get to a perfect weight and own it! In the past, I have bounced down to a good weight and had the attitude that "I've been there, done that and bought the t-shirt, now I can eat what I like". This time I am down there, and this is the new me forever. Out have gone the larger clothes, and I will not need them ever again.

What prompted your decision to lose weight?

I wanted to finally get a grip on my weight, having yoyo'd for many, many years. And I want to be fit and healthy to enjoy our grandchildren.

How did you hear about Nutracheck?

It was a combination of Nicola at New Beginnings, who introduced me to your wonderful app, and Body Slims, who guided me through the whole process.

Has your weight stayed fairly consistent over the years, or have you always had to manage it?

I have always felt heavy, and sometimes I felt out of control enough to make an effort, but once I got down to a reasonable weight in my eyes, I would immediately revert to old habits, but NOT THIS TIME.

Have you experienced any health improvements?

The most obvious health improvements are sleeping better, less sleep apnea and loads and loads and loads more energy. I find tasks that would have been too much for me, especially in the evenings, are really easy now. I take staircases in my stride and I don't even notice bending down to do up laces - whereas before I was searching for Velcro fastening runners.

How easy was it to fit the changes you made into your lifestyle?

I have found the Nutracheck app extremely helpful and clear. I had always tried to write things down before, but this app makes you want to log your food, and it covers such a huge range of branded foods as well as ingredients.

What was the most difficult thing about your weight-loss journey?

The hardest part of losing weight for EVER is training myself so I am no longer that person lingering beside the buffet, eating as much as I think I can get away with. I eat to fill myself and satisfy any hunger, and then I get on with the day. Food no longer rules me.

How do you feel now compared to before?

I can honestly say I feel a million dollars. I still get a surprise when I catch my reflection.

Any notable milestones to report?

The obvious milestone is a whole new wardrobe of clothes I want to wear - not the ones that 'might just about cover the lumps and bumps'. I have fewer clothes but ones that bring me joy. 12 years ago, I was thrilled to get down to size 16 - for all of three months - and now I'm a comfortable size 12.

What 3 tips would you give to anyone who has weight to lose?

  1. Use help, like the Nutracheck app and a support group, but go on any health journey for yourself. Not for the 'special occasion photographs' or because someone has told you it is a good idea to lose weight.
  2. Take time to help yourself. I go for a one-hour walk every day on my own and at speed - this is my time, I listen to books or podcasts and just sort the day out in my mind.
  3. Be prepared, plan your shopping and do not buy tempting treats thinking you'll limit their consumption, you won't!
