Q.

I've only lost 2.5lbs in the last 6 weeks. Why?

I have been following this Food Diary plan for the past 6 weeks and have only lost approx. 2.5lbs. I exercise regularly and stick to my calories as much as possible. I do weight train once a week - would this effect how much weight I lose? I also suffer with bloatedness and try as much as I can to cut out dairy and wheat but find this very difficult. I feel I am being very strict with myself and many people say it's my age and I will probably stay this weight and that is why I am not losing any more, however I do not feel happy with the weight I am now and would like to hit my goal weight. Do you have any advice.

A.

Our expert says...

Having peeked at your profile, I think given the weight you are now and the weight you want to achieve the going is slow because you are actually within the normal weight range to start with. What you are looking to do is reduce your Body Mass Index from around 22 to 20 and the healthy range is 18.5 - 25. So whilst I can understand you might want to lose a few pounds for purely cosmetic reasons you really don?t need to for health reasons and your body is probably just responding (or not responding!) accordingly. Quite simply it is happy at the the weight it is and losing weight is going to be a slower process for you. Weight training is going to help you towards a goal of looking trimmer and more toned, shedding inches and being healthier. But it may not help on the scales, as muscle weighs more than fat. I?d suggest you check your progress more in terms of centimetres lost which means having a tape measure to hand. I wish you luck in getting where you want to be but also urge you to be realistic and perhaps to learn to be happy as you are if it begins to look like your weight is stuck!
