I have just read a thread where you suggest eating protein at every meal. I find that hard at breakfast..never have time to boil an egg etc. I have protein at lunch and tea. My snacks are mostly fruit not protein (is that where I am going wrong? weight loss very very slow) I have carbs/cereal for breakfast and have more with my evening meal. Please tell me what the correct balance should be. I am fairly good with my exercise too. Thanks
Hi, thanks for your question. The protein suggestion I made is really to do with increasing satiety (i.e. fulness) so you?re less tempted to overdo your calorie allowance. It?s not about protein in itself having any inherent weight losing properties (though arguably this may be so) and as long as you are keeping to your calorie allowance, you should be losing weight whatever the proportion of nutrients in your diet. Two portions of protein a day is fine; if you can't fit it in at breakfast as well, the thing to do is to go for slow releasing carbs instead - grainy toast, porridge or beans on toast is ideal. I don't think you are going wrong with having fruit snacks either, but you could occasionally have a few nuts as well (or try much lower calorie soya ?nuts? which are a very filing snack in my experience). Eating carbs is important for energy, but some people do find that cutting down a bit helps - i.e. replacing some of your pasta or potatoes with salad or veg. I'm sorry to hear your weight loss is very slow, but I imagine this is not really anything to do with your current regimen which seems to be perfectly healthy enough. I know it's tough (and I hope t his doesn't sound patronising), but as long as it's in the right direction you will get there in the end!
