Can I set my own calorie allowance?

Yes. Tap 'Diary' in the bottom menu bar then the white icon top right on screen. Scroll down and tap 'Set My Own'. Tap on the calorie target to override it with your own figure, then scroll down and tap the 'Apply Changes' button. Note - 1,200 calories is the minimum target Nutracheck allows.

I want to go lower than 1,200 calories, why won't it let me do this?

We recommend a safe and realistic rate of weight loss of 1lbs - 2lbs per week. Our policy is that 1,200 calories a day is the minimum target allowed. While a lower target may result in faster weight loss initially, it is unlikely to be sustainable, plus a restricted food intake runs the risk of dietary deficiencies.

Does the App track any other nutrients?

Yes - in addition to calories and fat, we track carbs, sugar, fibre, protein, saturated fat and salt. To change the second column in your diary and track a different nutrient to fat, tap the column header (‘Fat’) and select the nutrient you wish to track from the drop down.

I'd like to set my own targets for nutrients, can I do this?

Yes. Tap 'Diary' in the bottom menu bar then the white icon top right on screen. Scroll down and tap 'Set My Own'. You can either tap the grams figure for each nutrient figure to set your own, or tap on the % of kcals figure and change that. When done, make sure you scroll down and tap the 'Apply Changes' button to save your targets.

Can I set a specific number of grams of carbohydrate to track each day?

Yes. Tap 'Diary' in the bottom menu bar then the white icon top right on screen. Scroll down and tap 'Set My Own'. Tap on the Carbs grams to override it with your own figure - make sure you scroll down and tap the 'Apply Changes' button to save your targets.

I don't want to track calories and fat - can I change this?

Yes - the App also tracks carbs, sugar, protein, saturated fat and salt. To change the second column in your diary and track a different nutrient, tap the column header (‘Fat’) and select the nutrient you wish to track from the drop down.

What does the pie chart show me?

The pie chart shows the proportion of your total daily calories that are coming from protein, carbs and fat.

What do the amber and red colours on the bar chart mean?

The bar chart tracks your daily food intake against guideline amounts for each nutrient. Amber means you are close to the guideline, or have gone just slightly over - so keep a close eye on that nutrient. Red means you're over - and will always show if you exceed sugar, salt and saturated fat levels.

What should I do if my bar chart turns red for some of the nutrients?

If a bar on your chart turns red, it means you have exceeded the guide amount for that nutrient. If you go over your calorie target, we recommend using your ‘Week View’ to offset the excess over the rest of the week to stay on track. To find this, tap 'Diary' in the bottom menu bar, then the blue menu button (right of the search bar).

How did you decide on the targets for the nutrition goals?

Our nutritionists have devised the goals based on evidence for safe and effective levels for each nutrient. There are limits in place to ensure that the 'Set My Own' option stays within sensible ranges.

Why don't you track cholesterol?

The majority of food products do not include cholesterol in the nutritional breakdown on pack, which is where we get our data. However we do track saturated fat. Current understanding is that it is the saturated fat content of food that influences blood cholesterol levels more than the actual cholesterol found in food (which is a much smaller amount). We recommend monitoring your saturated fat intake as this is an effective way of controlling cholesterol.

Can I turn off the product photos to save data? > move to using Food Diary?

Yes – tap ‘Diary’ from the bottom menu bar > the blue menu button (right of the search bar) > ‘Diary Preferences’ > ‘Food Photos’ > slide the toggle to ‘off’.

What is the difference between the Separate and Combined Diary View?

Both views give you the same target for food and exercise, it is just down to presentation. The ‘Separate’ View shows your food and exercise targets split out; for example, 1400 calories to eat with 200 to burn. Whereas the ‘Combined’ View shows your food target with the exercise calories deducted at the start of the day; for example, 1400 – 200 = 1200 calories. With the ‘Combined’ View, as you add exercise to your Diary throughout the day your food allowance will increase giving you the option to eat back some calories.

Is the Separate or Combined Diary View more suited for me?

If you’re trying to lose weight and don’t exercise much, we recommend using the ‘Separate’ View . It helps you focus on sticking within your food target and encourages you to be more active and burn extra calories to boost your weight loss.

If you are very active and frequently burn a lot of calories exercising, we recommend using the ‘Combined’ View. The calories you burn are added onto your food target, allowing you to eat some back to support your active lifestyle.

If I exercise, can I eat back the calories I have burned?

If your goal is to lose weight, we don’t recommend eating back all the calories you burn in exercise. That said, it does depend on the frequency and intensity of the exercise you do. If you are very active and regularly burn a lot of calories, the Combined Diary View would be better for you – as it allows you to eat some back.

To switch between the diary views tap the blue menu icon on your Diary page > ‘Diary Preferences’ > ‘Daily Totals’.

Does my daily job count as exercise?

Your calorie target has already factored in the activity level you chose for work. If you have a very active job, ensure this is selected in your Profile. You should only add physical activity to your Diart that is over and above your regular daily routine.

Why does my partner have a different calorie target?

You may have different diary views set in your accounts. We have the ‘Combined’ View and ‘Separate’ View that display your targets in different ways.

To change this in your App, tap the blue menu icon on your Diary page > ‘Diary Preferences’ > ‘Daily Totals’.
