Weight loss has stalled

Last year I managed to lose 11kg. In September my weight loss stopped. I joined Nutracheck in December and have stuck to the diet most of the time and exercised 4 days a week most weeks...often doing either 2 classes or 1 class and a gym workout with weights and cardio. These sessions are always different and I alter the workouts regularly. I also play tennis now and again and do long walks on the days I dont go to the gym. My question is do you think I should eat more of my 'earned' calories when I've done a couple of hours exercising - could it be that I'm actually not eating enough or could I be eating the wrong type of food? I'm getting very frustrated by my lack of progress. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Our expert says...

Hi and thanks for your query

A big well done for your 11kg weight loss last year.  You say that in September that weight loss stopped but I notice that since joining Nutracheck in December you have already lost another 3.1kg, which would suggest it is definitely working for you.

To increase your success be sure to fill your diary in every day and not miss anything, and unless you are hungry I wouldn’t suggest eating any more to compensate for your exercise. Combining moderate calorie reduction with exercise in the way that you are doing is very good as it helps retains your body’s lean tissue levels and hence keeps your metabolism up.

In short I don’t think you are going too far wrong, but are just experiencing the slow down in weight loss that can happen as you reach your goal.  Having a low GI diet with plenty of high fibre foods and protein might give you the edge so have plenty of fruit and veg, lean meat and fish. But the main thing is just to stick with it and I’m sure you’ll see the result sooner or later!

Best wishes.
