Q.

Is my calorie intake too low?

Hi, I've recently signed up to Nutracheck after successfully losing 4st with Weightwatchers in 2010 on the 'old' points diet but nothing using the 'new' pro points plan. In fact I have put back on over half a stone. This is my second week and I lost 1lb the first week even though it was my birthday and there were a lot of meals out etc which I mostly guessed at. This week I have stayed the same. My question is about my calorie intake. At the end of this week I had over 2,300 calories left over. I eat well over my daily quota of fruit and veg and have been weighing absolutely everything. My husband does the cooking and he has been writing it all down for me. I stay away from bread as much as possible as history tells me that when I don't eat it I lose more weight. Am I eating enough? Do you have suggested daily meal plans for 1,400 calories (my daily allowance)?

A.

Our expert says...

Hello,

Thanks for your query, and well done on the success you’ve had so far! As long as you are eating healthily (and it appears you definitely are), feel satisfied and healthy, we would never lecture you to have more calories than you feel you need, just for the sake of it (though going below 1000 calories a day is neither nutritionally adequate nor safe in the absence of medical support and counseling).

So if you’re doing well and you are weighing everything (and are lucky enough to have a husband who cooks for you!) you are definitely doing something right.

We don’t actually provide 1400 calorie recipe plans on the site, but hopefully you’ll find lots of inspiration in the Member’s Recipes section (searchable), which you’ll find under the Meals and Recipes tab.

Nutritionally, it’s also good to get your five a day (which you’re doing), and to eat some whole grains, lean protein and low dairy products daily (as well as one or two treats if calories allow, obviously!)

I wish you continued success,

Best wishes

Angela
