Q.

I am trying to conceive and I need some advice!

I have Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS and as a result I can do very little to exercise. The thing is I really do want to keep doing this diary through my pregnancy (assuming that I will fall!) as I want to watch what I eat as excessive amounts of food will mean that I will struggle more, usually a lot of people tend to not worry about their eating during pregnancy so I am not sure of where to go. Could you suggest an amount of calories that would be a good amount to keep to while pregnant? I am 5 foot 8 and a medium build.

Our expert says...

The official line is that dieting during pregnancy is potentially hazardous to you and your developing baby. Women who eat well and gain the appropriate amount of weight are more likely to have healthy babies. But the key is ?an appropriate amount of weight? which can be very individual. As I don?t know your current weight it's hard to advise, but I would urge you not to have less than 1800 calories during the first two trimesters of pregnancy and to not go below 2000 calories in the final three months. You?ll still gain weight, but hopefully a minimal amount and after the baby is born you should be no heavier and probably lighter. Please do check all this out with your GP however and if and when you do fall pregnant your midwife wil be able to give properly tailored advice.

On a general note, the webpage www.pregnancy-info.net/fibromyalgia.htmlhas some useful information on getting pregnant and being pregnant with fibromyalgia.
