How do I overcome period cravings and lethargy?

When my period is due, my appetite increases, cravings start, lethargy sets in so find it difficult to exercise and want to sleep all the time. Any tips on how to combat this....?

I think a lot of women will relate to your question, so thank you for sending it in.

It is true that our hormones can play havoc with our best intentions and the side effects that you describe when you have your period are very common. Knowing this, of course, doesn't really help and I'm afraid that there is no easy way to overcome these problems. The hard facts are that you have to remain focused on losing weight and make sure that you stay within your calorie target. One way to try and overcome an increased appetite, and cravings, is to split your meals into 3 smaller meals and 3 snacks so that you eat 6 times over the day and at fairly regular intervals. You still need to keep within your calorie target, but can fill up on extra veggies and fruit. If you do exceed your calories on any one day, try not to be too hard on yourself, but resolve to recoup them the following week.

I know it is probably the last thing you feel like doing, but exercising can really help in this situation. Just give it a try and you may find that exercising not only gives you more energy, it may also take your mind off eating for a while!
