Q.

How can I safely come off a low cal diet?

Hi Earlier this year my doctor recommended I join Lighterlife as my blood pressure was so high I was ready for blood pressure medication at the age of 32. So, I joined and did the 14 weeks and lost 4 stone and significantly reduced my blood pressure and cured a whole host of other problems I had. However, I have finished Lighter Life and started using this service rather than the Lighterlife Management Programme which is very expensive. My worry is that I will put weight back on. I exercise most days now, going to the gym, walking fast every day, aqua aerobics and other classes etc...and I have done food tests to show I have an allergy to gluten and wheat which wasn't surprising as my mother is also a coeliac. I now eat very healthily and probably have around 1,000 cals a day and burn off on average 300 a day. I don't eat processed foods or high fat foods and dont drink alcohol in the week, only 2 x gin and slimline tonic at the weekend. What are the chances of me not losing weight and actually putting on following this new lifestyle away from Lighter Life? I drink a lot of water and green tea and only have 2 cups of black coffee a day. hope you can help as very nervous about going it alone but dont believe a vlcd is a way of life. Thanks in advance

Our expert says...

Thanks for your query and well done for turning your health around and losing all that wieght.

Though the way you did it can be very successful for people with a lot of weight to lose, the only downside is that  sometimes the transition to normal eating can be a bit  tricky as you've not been around real food for so long. However all you lack is confidence: from the information you give me it seems that you have  all the tools in place and exactly the right attitude to carry on being successful! In short if you keep doing what you are doing you should definitely not put weight back on, and indeed should carry on losing it steadily which I presume is still your aim until you get to the weight you finally want? So well done and keepe up the good work!
