Our expert says...

Hi there,

Thanks for your email and sorry to hear that you're not losing weight as you'd hoped.

I've taken the opportunity to have a look at your Food Diary to see whether there were any clues as to why you're not losing weight, and I wanted to get in touch as I'm a little concerned that you're not eating enough. If you're truly entering everything that you're eating into your diary, you are underrating by quite a substantial amount.

Although it might seem that the less you eat, the more you'll lose, but in fact this can have an adverse effect on your weight loss. If you eat less than about 1,200 calories per day, your body isn't getting enough nutrition to perform at an optimum level. We need at least 1,000 calories per day just to function - so for things like breathing, blood pumping, food digestion etc. If you have under this amount for more than a day or two, your body can actually start to think it's being starved, and your metabolism will slow down to make sure you're not using any excess calories.

The net effect of this can be that your body will hang onto any excess calories you have in your body i.e. body fat, so that it has reserves if this starvation continues i.e. no weight loss.

If you're also exercising while you're only eating 600/700 calories per day, then this can have a really negative impact on your weight loss as well.

The calorie allowance you were given when you joined Nutracheck already has a substantial deficit included, which should allow you to have a 1-2lbs weight loss per week. This is a sensible amount to lose as you learn to have a healthier diet and lifestyle.

I would urge you to try and reach your calorie allowance on most days of the week. Keep up the exercise, and you will hopefully start to see some weight loss.

If you would like any further advice on what makes up a healthy diet, or any other tips on sensible weight loss please don't hesitate to get back in touch.

Kind regards,

Janet
