Q.

Do any foods help fight a cold?

Hi,  I am suffering from a really bad cold at the moment, and although I have lost my appetite I know I need to keep eating to help my body fight it off. Are there any particular foods you recommend, and am I right to stick to my calorie allowance of 1400? Thanks

A.

Basically whilst you are ill you should eat what you feel comfortable with and no more. To help your immune system I’d suggest having plenty of fruits and veg, perhaps in teh form of soup and juice if it's easier on the throat.  The steam from hot broths can help clear your sinuses too!  Also have plenty or lean protein like chicken and fish and moderate amounts of carbs such as whole grain bread or pasta. Look after yourself and hope you feel better soon!
