Can you over-do it on 5-a-day?

I am trying so hard to have my 5 a day and succeeding, however, I know this may be a really strange question but can it upset your diet if you have too much? I am having 180% some days. I just don't want to hinder my chances of losing. Thanks. Stacey.

Thank you for your question, which is not strange at all!

 

Over-eating on fruit and vegetables will not hinder your weight loss, as long as you are entering them all into your food diary. 5-a-day should really be a minimum target, as these foods provide so many health benefits as well as being a very useful source of filling fibre when trying to lose weight. Just make sure you eat lots of different varieties of fruit and vegetables to maximise their benefit, as they all contain different minerals, vitamins and phytonutrients.

 

The only time that eating a lot of fruit and vegetables might be a problem is if you haven’t eaten many before.  In this case, it is best to increase quantities slowly to allow your digestive system to get used to the additional roughage.
