How much alcohol can I have per day?

What is a safe number of alcohol units to have each day?

Our expert says...

The government recommends no more than 2-3 units a day for women and 3-4 units a day for men, but it’s worth bearing in mind 1 alcohol unit is only 125ml (a very small glass) of a 9% (very low alcohol) wine. In real life you’re more likely to drink a 250ml glass of a 13% wine and this has over your safe daily limit of 3 units. To work how much alcohol there is in your booze, multiply the amount in ml you are drinking by the %ABV on the bottle and divide by 1000. So for example 250 x 13% / 1000 = 3.25. This will help you keep track of your alcohol units.
