Does using a PS2 dance mat burn a lot of calories?

Could you please tell me if using a dance mat on the PS2 burns a lot of calories and is it a good form of exercise?

Hi,

Using a dance mat with the PS2 is a great way to burn calories and would equate to the same as dancing where you could (obviously depending on the intensity/tempo and duration) burn anything up to 252 calories an hour! It could be viewed as a form of cardiovascular exercise and the higher the intensity the better it would be in terms of cardiovascular benefits, i.e. heart health, endurance and stamina.

I have seen certain levels of the PS2 dancing game and if you are well-co-ordinated and so are working at the higher end of the technically demanding routines then can prove to be as effective an activity as an aerobic DVD or class. I suggest you try to do a stint on the PS2 dance program for anywhere between 30-60 minutes to provide a structured element and decent duration to the activity with minimal rest, i.e. only when you have to!

Exercise is any activity that causes an increase in heart rate and provides benefits in terms of health/fitness. A dance workout on a PS2 dance mat could definitely qualify for this category! Enjoy!
