What should I do post-knee surgery to burn calories?

Hi, I had keyhole knee surgery 2 weeks ago and want to burn calories fast. What's best? I already walk to work (20 minutes). Any tips?

Hi,

Here are some things you can consider incorporating to optimise calorie burning:

- Try non-impact exercise like cycling or possibly using a X-trainer for an alternative aerobic workout. Avoid using a stepper or rower in the next 2-4 weeks though – just to allow your knee to settle fully post-op

- consider bodyweight exercises that target other muscle groups other than the legs, which you can incorporate into little circuits for muscle toning and aerobic benefits as muscle toning burns calories! Possible exercise options can be found on the resources page of the website under the heading of ‘Kelly’s home exercise articles’. Have a look and try some of these exercises, you could even try doing some before you go for your walks to add variety to your calorie burning solutions.

- although this is obvious, you can increase the duration of your walks (progressively) as well as changing the routes you take – so including more hills and uneven terrain. Alternatively you could also take a rucksack with you and fill it so you have to walk with additional weight as this will increase the resistance and the calories burned!

Hope this helps,
