How many cals does walking fast on the treadmill burn?

I have been doing 30 mins on the treadmill but walking at 6.6kph how many calories should this burn? Can't run yet as I'm to afraid to let go of the bar !

Our expert says...

Hi,

6.6kph works out to be 4.10mph, so based on the statistics below 30mins walking at this pace would burn approximately 218.5 calories.

However, as you are using a treadmill I would reduce the figure to about 210 in 30 mins as walking outside has a greater potential to burn more calories due to the person having to propel themselves forwards. With treadmill's the moving belt means that the propulsion part of the walking movement is slightly
bypassed.

Walking 2-3 mph = 189 calories/hr

Walking 3-3.5 mph = 360 calories/hr

Walking 3.5-4 mph = 387 calories/hr

Walking 4-4.5 mph = 437 calories/hr

Walking 5 mph = 531 calories/hr

Hope this makes sense, so I would go with a figure of about 210 calories
within 30 mins for you at the momment at 6.6kph on the treadmill.

Want to be as specific as possible for you. Running is an option but by no means a neccesity to weight loss or health so let go of the bars when you're ready! :-)
