Am I doing too much exercise?

Hi, I know this might sound weird but am I doing too much exercise? I have made little changes in my day to day, I walk the boys to school and back which this alone burns 1000cals, then I try to do 15-30mins on the exercise bike, in the last 5 days I have got a -5235 calories should I be eating a little more to balance it out a bit? I am eating almost all of my 1400 calories recommended and drinking loads of water. Will I just lose weight quicker? Or will I just send my body in to panic mode? I don?t count much more of my exercise (housework, decorating, and gardening) so this figure could be even more :(

Hi,

To be burning 1000 calories from walking you would need to be walking in the region of 5 hours at a moderate 3.0 mph pace (as 3.0mph burns approx 196calories per hour) or 2 hours at a very brisk 5.0mph pace (as 5.0mph burns approx 448 calories per hour) so I would just ask you to ensure your calculations are accurate for your walks to and from school. Assuming they are then yes you could be doing too much but if you are drinking enough water, getting enough sleep and feel generally ok, (not constantly fatigued) then it means your body is coping and you should be fine to carry on and will likely just see results a little quicker.

The calculation of calories in and out of the body is a difficult approximate process so don’t worry about things you may not have accounted for just make sure you listen to your body and you are unlikely to go wrong,

Hope this helps,

Kelly
